ICDRSC Activities:
  • Conduct rigorous, action-based research on early childhood development in partnership with community partners who serve low-income communities.
  • Conduct evaluation and assessments of early childhood community-based programs.
  • Provide policy consultation for progressive national, state and local policies that address the well-being of young children and their families.
  • Offer training in early childhood development for early childhood educators and community-based programs.
  • Create University-Community partnerships that work to support mutual interest in children’s optimal developmental outcomes.

Bio-Sketch:

Dr. Eva Marie Shivers was on faculty at the School of Education, Psychology in Education at the University of Pittsburgh until her transition to the Phoenix area where she now conducts research, training and advocacy with various community agencies as well as on-going research consulting with national and federal agencies. Dr. Shivers is also currently a faculty member at the Harris Infant Early Childhood Mental Health Training Institute at Southwest Human Development. The Harris Institute is recognized nationally for its excellence in training in early intervention and infant mental health.

Dr. Shivers received her Ph.D. from UCLA, Psychological Studies in Education, where she studied with Dr. Carollee Howes. Dr. Shivers also holds a law degree from Howard University School of Law in Washington, D.C.

Research interests include culture and development, child care policy, social and emotional development of low-income children of color, effective early education in low-income communities of color, child care workforce issues, provider-child relationships in child care settings. She is also proud to identify as a ZERO TO THREE, Solnit Fellow, Class of 2005.
